World Cup: The neighborhood meets at The Divan
With the start of this year’s Football World Cup, The Arabic Cultural House – The Divan has established a fan zone in the Divan’s garden.
The fan zone resembles a neighborhood project meant to build up relationships with the Divan’s friends and the neighbors and their families in Berlin Zehlendorf. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the weeks of the tournament in the fan zone of the Arabic Cultural House together. Ambassadors of many states and other high-ranking guests contribute to a truly international experience when the different cultures meet to celebrate in joy and harmony. A perfect example of how sports can peacefully foster the exchange between nations.
Whether rain or sunshine, the Divan has proofed to be an excellent place to watch the games. This also applies for His Excellency Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar.
This weekend, guests were invited to watch the game of the German national team who faced an impressive Swedish team in Sochi. Decorated in black, red and gold, it was obvious which team had the support of the spectators at the Divan. Thrilling moments and an emotional last-minute goal made this Saturday night memorable.
Known for its power to bring together many people from all cultural backgrounds, the World Cup in particular is seen as an opportunity for the Divan to become a remarkable addition to the cultural happenings in Zehlendorf.
