Al Shahaniya Camel Racetrack

Camel RacingCamel racing, traditionally known as the sport of the sheiks, continues even today in the small hamlet of Al Shahaniya, where Qatar’s popular camel racetrack is situated. Professional Camel racing started in Qatar in 1972 and the camel race track is a must see for those who visit Doha. Visitors can view the fiercely competitive and exciting sporting event in Qatar. The season begins in October and racing events are held in March and April.

Getting There:

An hour’s drive into the desert outside north of downtown Doha.

Dhow Ride

5_Dhow_RidesTake a local fishing boat for a chance to see the Corniche from the sea. These local fishing boats leave from the jetty near Al-Mourjan restaurant on the Corniche. Take advantage of half and full-day dhow and fishing trips offered by tour companies including trips to Safliya Island and water sports which are available at an extra cost. All the tour companies offer three- to four-hour evening dhow cruises where usually dinner is served on the dhow.

Racing & Equestrian Club

Racing & Equestrian ClubQatar Racing & Equestrian Club carries on this long and distinguished tradition with a commitment to the pure breeding of Arabian horses and the enjoyment and challenge of horse racing. Consider attending one of the weekly horse races that occur throughout the season (October to May), every Wednesday and Thursday at 04.00 pm races of pure-bred Arabian horses take place at the Racing & Equestrian Club on either its sand or turf tracks.
