Qatar and Russia seek to end the Syrian crisis
HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met the Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin this week to discuss regional politics, the energy market and the Syrian crisis.
The leaders discussed Libya, Palestine and Yemen and agreed on the need to reach a “satisfactory solution” to the Syrian crisis, a week ahead of planned UN-backed talks between the Syrian government and the opposition in Geneva.
Furthermore HH the Emir stated the two countries had “common interests” especially in the gas sector and hinted at further investments.
The two state leaders also emphasized their intentions to closely cooperate on the preparation of FIFA World Cup championships in 2018 (Russia) and 2022 (Qatar).
