Obama reaffirms support of Qatar

US president Barack Obama met HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thami one day before the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on April 22, in order to consolidate the cooperation.

Main topic of the meeting in Riyadh was Qatar’s concern regarding the increasing influence of Iran in their region. Obama was trying to ensure that the USA provides full support in order to secure safe conditions.”I reaffirmed the policy of the United States to use all elements of our power to secure our core interests in the Gulf region and to deter and confront external aggression against our allies.” Furthermore, the two leaders agreed on the importance of strengthening international cooperation against terrorism after discussing issues like the conflicts in Yemen, Libya and Syria and international terror. The GCC is going to focus on the relations between the State of Qatar and the United States of America.
