Garangao: Children’s Festival with the John-F.-Kennedy-School
The Arabic Cultural House – The Divan welcomed the children of the John-F.-Kennedy-School in Berlin-Zehlendorf on May 30 to celebrate Garangao. Garangao is the children’s festival, which takes place every year in the middle of Ramadan.
With this tradition, the Qatari culture of generosity and giving is emphasized and special attention is paid to the coming generations. In Qatar, children visit their neighbors that day and collect sweets and nuts.
Accordingly, there was much to discover for the children of the JFK School. An introduction to the custom, getting acquainted with Qatari robes and, of course, the discovering Divan itself. During the festival, many games and small gifts were prepared for the international kindergarten group: face-painting, listening to stories and spoon races were just a few of the activities in which the children at the Garangao party had fun.
