FIFA President Infantino visits Qatar

Gianni Infantino on his first visit to Qatar as FIFA president insisted on Friday that the 2022 World Cup would be hosted there as planned. Asked if the Gulf state would keep the tournament, Infantino told reporters in Doha: ‘Of course, the World Cup will take place in Qatar in 2022.’ The Association’s president also met with HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to discuss the World Cup 2022.

Infantino also announced a new independent committee would be set up to monitor working conditions for labourers at Qatar’s 2022 World Cup stadiums.

Previously, the new FIFA president had visited Russia which will host the World Cup 2018.
